Unsure of your tape’s specs? No problem! We can figure it out…
We provide a mirror-image of your tapes as Broadcast WAV files, compatible with Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reaper, and other major DAWs.
Our Mytek 8×192 multitrack converters can perform transfers from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz, and our Mytek Brooklyn ADC stereo converter can go beyond, up to 384 kHz.
Don’t worry if you’re not sure which rate is best—we’ll help you determine the right approach based on your project goals.
Our Ampex MM1200 and customized 440C recorders set the standard for analog playback quality. Each machine is meticulously maintained, featuring upgraded heads, precision electronics, and battery-powered stability for consistent performance.
By bypassing aging consumer circuits, we deliver superior bass response, open midrange, and sparkling highs—preserving the full depth of your analog sound.
Short, high-quality Mogami/Canare cabling and meticulously hand-soldered connections ensure every nuance of your recording is faithfully transferred into the digital domain.
We assess and inventory your tapes, labeling each box and tape with identifying information, and gather whatever metadata we can from attending documentation to plan the workflow of your project. At this stage we plan the safest and most effective restoration path back to playable condition.
If needed we incubate your tapes to recure them for playback, we also re-tension them and perform any mild splice repair necessary. All of this is considered reasonable restoration and covered under the first reel rate for your project. We also assess for deeper risks, such as excessive triage, adhesion syndrome, lubricant destabilization, and the presence of moisture penetration that will require deep cleaning – all of which require a more intense level of attention and care.
We set the lab up for your transfer – align the playback machine to the proper speed and equalization, tune and apply the proper noise reduction decoding if necessary, and employ any special gear as needed such as time code synchronization or variable speed playback. Before we hit record we make sure your recording sounds correct in every channel. Once approved for transfer we run a levels pass that acts as a guide for setting levels for the transfer, and as a quality control version to compare with the transfer to ensure we have not missed anything and that we achieve consistent playback between the 2 versions. Finally, we capture your reel with optimized levels peaking within the top 6 dB.
We name your files using metadata protocols that allow for easy identification and organization for importing into any DAW…or however naming works best for you.
Files are securely shared via password-protected download link, or loaded onto an external hard drive if you prefer.
